(Ping! Zine) – £10,000 is up for grabs in a new online gaming tournament unveiled on Tuesday by a number of companies including web hosting provider Fasthosts and online gaming community GameShadow. The web hosting company has enabled the tournament’s operation through the utilization of its server platform.
The tournament is attracting large attention. According to the involved companies, signups for the event exceeded 1,400 subscribers. Particular games included are Counter Strike: Source Challenge and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Challenge.
“GameShadow Battles has had a great start. We are delighted with the calibre of entrants that we’ve managed to attract. Demand has exceeded all expectations and our intention is to run another tournament in the future so as not to disappoint those who have been unable to join us this year,” commented Fasthosts Marketing Director Steve Holford in a press release regarding the matter.
While £10,000 is up for grabs, it won’t go to one winner. The reward is divided between the two games involved in the tournament, meaning £5,000 is allocated to each title. The reward money will be further divided among the top three winners in each category.
Also involved in the event is epic.LAN, a LAN gaming event provider based in the United Kingdom.
As a web hosting provider, FastHosts provides a number of services including hosting, virtual servers, domains, email, dedicated, broadband and more. The start of the tournament was initially announced by the companies early last month.
Both video game titles have proven particularly popular in the market. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was initially released in 2007. In May 2009, the game’s creator, Activision noted that title had succeeded in selling thirteen million units.
