(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Anne Wojcicki’s Silicon Valley company, 23andMe, offers customers the chance to get detailed information about their DNA for only $99. This test is done by simply spitting into a tube.
According to an interview with the NY Times, Wojcicki has mapped the genotype of 475,000 people in the last five years. She believes that “genetics is going to be a ubiquitous part of health care” in the near future.
Genome testing is a great way to take healthcare preventions by finding out what disease people are at risk of. Wojcicki hopes to emphasize preventions by educating people to be as healthy as possible.
She describes genetics as being “a really important piece of the puzzle in an unsolved medical mystery.”
