Amazon.com Back Up Following Thursday Outage

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Top online retail giant Amazon.com faced trouble Thursday in which downtime persisted for 49 minutes, a report from TechCrunch.com noted.

Users attempting to access the website received a message reading “Http/1.1 Service Unavailable.”

A 503 Error was reportedly in the mix, signaling server problems.

“The gateway page of Amazon.com was offline to some customers for approximately 49 minutes. Other pages of the site were accessible and AWS was not impacted,” the company commented in the Tech Crunch report.

And despite some claims from hacktivist groups, hacking didn’t appear to be the cause. According to a report from Gizmodo, a representative from the Amazon signaled no outside groups played a role in the downtime.

Amazon’s retail website has historically remained stable but the company has had a number of issues regarding downtime for its cloud service platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS). In December, an issue affecting the company’s network led to outage for Netflix on Christmas Eve.
