AMD Makes Cloud Gaming Play, Invests in CiiNOW

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Popular processor creator AMD ventured into cloud gaming on Tuesday, announcing that it would work with cloud gaming company CiiNow, a developer of middleware and an enabler of HTML5 streaming.

To do so, AMD is waging a bet in the company through its investment platform known as AMD Ventures  which covers areas including security, multimedia, data visualization, content creation and more.

Commenting on the matter in a press release, Manju Hedge, a Corporate VP working for AMD, called CiiNow “on the cutting-edge of online game streaming technology.” “AMD’s investment signifies our mutual drive to liberate gamers from today’s constraints and move us to the next era of digital content,” Hedge stated.

So why invest in the gaming industry? AMD emphasized the market’s expected 81 billion dollar revenue within the next four years.

CiiNow currently relies on a key offering to utilize its platform, making use of AMD’s Radeon graphics and providing HD streaming through the availability of server blades. Coinciding with AMD’s announcement of investment, CiiNow revealed the general availability of its new gaming solution, providing streaming with minimized bandwidth.
