(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Apple has launched a free Battery Replacement Program for a “small percentage” of iPhone 5s that have defective batteries.
In a statement on Apple’s support page, the tech giant stated that they have “determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently,” noting that the affected smartphones were purchased between September 2012 and January 2013.
Users must submit their iPhone’s serial number in order to see if they meet the requirements for the battery replacement service. If your serial number is accepted, then you can bring your device to any Apple authorized service provider or retail store.
However, if the device has any damage that “impairs the replacement of the battery,” such as a cracked screen, then it must be fixed before the battery can be replaced.
Users in the U.S. and China are now available to have their batteries replaced, while customers in Europe will have to wait until tomorrow to be eligible for the program.
