(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Apple stared down an intellectual property problem recently as a key agency nixed the company’s patent of what was described as a “pinch-to-zoom” capability.
According to a Reuters report, the measure comes amid a continued dispute with Samsung, maker of the popular Galaxy S3, a primary competitor to the iPhone.
The particular patent had come up during the court dispute in August, a case Samsung lost to Apple as jurors found the company had violated six filed patents. However, the Reuters report noted the invalidation was in effect “temporarily.”
The basis for the invalidation? The same technology had apparently been covered in previously filed patents.
The move follows a request made by Apple to ban sales of Samsung devices in the United States – something which was denied by a judge Monday.
