(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Apple on Tuesday announced that its OS X Mavericks operating system would arrive as a free download today, according to a report via the LA Times.

Users can access and download Mavericks through the Mac App Store.

Apple initially detailed the operating system during its WWDC conference back in June.

The company’s last Mac OS launch, OS X Mountain Lion, was made available as a $19.99 upgrade when it arrived in July of last year.

OS X Mavericks’ features include new notifications, improved system battery life, more multi-screen functionality in addition to a revamped version of Apple’s default browser, Safari.

During today’s event, Apple was also expected to unveil new iPads.
