(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Last week at its Cupertino headquarters, Apple announced two new iPhone releases, the 5C (a cheaper alternative) and the iPhone 5S (a higher end device). With the two launches, you may be wondering exactly which one is right for you. Below we highlight the primary differences:
iPhone 5C: Apple says that its iPhone 5C is “for the colorful.” Made out of a polycarbonate plastic side and back case, color options include blue, green, white, yellow and pink.
iPhone 5S: The iPhone 5S takes on the traditional aluminum iPhone body. Color options here include silver, a “champagne” gold and space gray.
iPhone 5C: The iPhone 5C features an 8MP iSight camera.
IPhone 5S: While the iPhone 5S also sports an 8MP iSight Camera, it does have larger pixels. It also features an auto image stabilization feature in addition to burst mode.
The iPhone 5C does not have slo-mo video while the 5S does.
iPhone 5C: The 5C features Apple’s A6 chip
iPhone 5S: On the other hand, the iPhone 5S features Apple’s A7 chip featuring a 64-bit architecture. Also included is an M7 motion coprocessor.
Memory & Pricing Options
iPhone 5C: The 5C comes with 2 memory options – 16GB ($99) and 32GB ($199).
iPhone 5S: The 5S comes with 3 memory options – 16GB ($199), 32GB ($299) and 64GB ($399).
Both phones will be available for carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.
Both phones feature a 4-inch retina display with a 1136X640 resolution along with 326 ppi.
The iPhone 5S carriers a fingerprint identity sensor from Apple while the 5C does not.
Outside of display size, the overall weight and dimensions for the devices are slightly different.
iPhone 5C: Height of 4.90 inches and width of 2.33 inches. Weight: 4.65 ounces
iPhone 5S: Height of 4.87 inches and width of 2.31 inches. Weight: 3.95 ounces
