(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Along with an anticipated September next gen iPhone 5 unveil, Apple is planning to launch a trade-in program.
The initiative will allow owners of older iPhones to replace their devices with the latest iPhone for a reduced cost, a report from 9to5Mac noted on Monday.
The report cited an unnamed source but noted the trade-ins would occur through Apple’s Apple Store retail chain.
Other retail locations to carry the iPhone have carried out similar trade-in initiatives in the past.
Apple CEO Tim Cook previously signaled that he wasn’t against the trade-in strategy during an earnings call. “I see channels doing it, and I like the environmental aspect of it, and so that part of it really is encouraging to me,” Cook had commented, according to 9to5Mac.
It’s heavily rumored that Apple will unveil the iPhone 5S and a cheaper alternative, the iPhone 5C, during a September launch event.
