(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – The Grinch who stole Christmas this year came in the form of an outage at Amazon Web Services which reportedly resulted in downtime for popular video streaming service Netflix on Christmas Eve, Reuters reported on Tuesday.
Examining the company’s Health Dashboard showed an issue with Amazon services via its North Virginia data center.
“We’re sorry for the Christmas Eve outage. Terrible timing! Engineers are working on it now,” stated Netflix via its Twitter account.
Services, however, were restored to normal levels by Christmas day with Netflix thanking its users for their patience.
Meanwhile, a full postmortem is likely to come from Amazon. “We are investigating exactly what happened and how it could have been prevented,” commented Netflix representative Joris Evers in the Reuters report.
Amazon has experienced numerous outage issues in the past, the most recent one previously occurring in October when an issue affecting the company led to downtime for popular websites such as Pinterest, Reddit and Quora.
