Basic Elements of a Restaurant Website

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – As a restaurant owner, you should never underestimate the importance of maintaining a website for your business. Customers are using the internet more than ever not only to research new and existing restaurants in their area, but also to learn what kind of cuisine is offered, when the restaurant is open, and how to contact them to make a reservation. This is why it is important to consider how informative your website is, along with how you present your image.

Below is a short list of elements to consider when designing your restaurant website:

Contact Information – This includes the address of your restaurant, and maybe also an embedded link to Google Maps so that your customers can easily find and print directions from their location. You should also make sure that you include a phone number and hours of operation as well. The most important aspect of including this information is making sure it can be found with minimal effort from the visitor. Customers are going to be accessing your website precisely for this information, so you want to make it easy to find.

Menu – Aside from where and when they can visit your restaurant, your potential customers will be interested in what type of food they can expect to find. Try to list your menu on your website as descriptively as you would in the actual store. Break it down into categories such as Appetizers, Entrees, Desserts, Drinks, and any specials that you might have during the week.

High-Quality Photos – No matter how descriptive you make your menu sound, it is often the photography itself that will entice customers to try out a new restaurant and new foods. Make sure your website has at least a few examples of the dishes you provide, and make sure they are of high-quality. Blurry or dark images make the food look bland.

Special Events Calendar – In addition to showcasing your food, let your customers know about any planned events coming up in the future. Many small restaurants host things like fundraiser nights, live musicians, or games. This lets your customers plan which night they would like to dine with you.
