ICANN Provides Update on CEO Search

(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Internet regulator ICANN is in search of a new CEO following an August announcement that current executive Rock Beckstrom would step down following the expiration of his term in July of next year.

In July of 2009, Beckstrom assumed his current position

Meanwhile, the organization has already stepped up its search efforts, recently announcing details for exactly what they’re looking for in a candidate.

Working with executive search consulting firm Odgers Berndtson, ICANN has scheduled meetings concerning the search along with launching a CEO Candidate Profile, detailing CEO qualifications and characteristics.

Discussing the matter, the profile states, “ICANN requires a public interest-minded leader with a combination of business, diplomatic and organizational skills.”

Such skills listed included having experience globally, a record of “achieving results,” an “ability to anticipate issues,” technical experience, and more.

As a group, ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has played an instrumental part in the development of the internet. Aside from overseeing IP allocation via the IANA, the group most recently oversaw an initiative that allows for the availability of customized TLDs. For more information on the matter, visit: http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-12dec11-en.htm
