(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Bill Gates and Steve Jobs surely went at each other’s throats in the tech arena during years of competition between Apple and Microsoft. However, a new interview from 60 Minutes with Bill Gates has shed new light on what some would describe as a friendly rivalry between the two tech superstars.
“He and I, in a sense, grew up together,” commented Gates, according to CBS News.
“We were within a year of the same age, and we were kind of naively optimistic and built big companies. And every fantasy we had about creating products and learning new things– we achieved all of it. And most of it as rivals. But we always retained a certain respect and communication, including even when he was sick,” Gates continued.
The interview was long ranging on the relationship as Gates recounted his last conversation with the late Apple founder, including a discussion on the innovative yacht Jobs was looking forward to sailing on.
All in all, it could be said the two had mutual respect for one another despite some fierce competition which the tech market surely benefited from. Watch a clip here (CBSNews.com).
