(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – QNX, BlackBerry’s car software subsidiary, announced on Wednesday a new operating system designed for automotive safety.
The new software, QNX OS for Automotive Safety 1.0, adds advanced driver assistance systems, digital instrument clusters, heads-up displays, and other in-car safety applications, says a QNX press release.
“Safety-critical systems have been our bread and butter for almost 30 years,” said QNX Director of Product Management, Grant Courville. “That experience, combined with our proven competency in safety certifications and software deployed in tens of millions of vehicles, makes QNX the ideal OS supplier for automotive companies building systems with ISO 26262 ASIL requirements.”
QNX demonstrated this new system on a Mercedes-Benz CLA45 at the Telematics Detroit conference Wednesday and Thursday.
QNX OS for Automotive Safety 1.0 is set to be released in the third quarter of 2014.
