China Denies Reports Claiming That Apple Products Are Banned From Government Purchases

China Denies Reports Claiming That Apple Products Are Banned From Government Purchases (Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – China is denying all claims that Apple products are banned from being purchased by Chinese government agencies.

According to Reuters, the Central Government Procurement Centre refuted recent claims by stating that earlier reports were referring to energy-saving products rather than a government procurement list that bans the purchase of specific products, noting that Apple has never applied to be on the energy-savings list.

“Even though Apple has the certification for energy-saving products… it has never provided the necessary verification material and agreements according to the regulations,” said a statement sent to Reuters from China’s Finance Ministry.

China’s Government Procurement Centre website added that agencies can purchase products even if they are not on the energy savings list, which means Apple products are can in fact be purchased by government officials using public money.

Earlier this week Bloomberg reported, citing government officials with knowledge of the situation, that ten Apple products had been excluded from a procurement list that was released last month, which included various models of the iPad and MacBook.
