(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Cupertino, California-based tech giant Apple is surely set for a big fall. While the company is highly expected to unveil its next generation iPhone featuring a larger screen, the creator of the popular Macintosh computer line could soon unveil something else: a new iMac.
According to a report appearing on applebitch.com, U.S. retailers that carry Apple products are facing shortages for the 27 inch version of the popular iMac desktop computer. Among them are retail giants including Best Buy, J&R and Amazon. What appears to be even more interesting is the fact that the report notes that Best Buy provides no indication when the computer will return to stock.
So with all the shortages, we have to ask: Is Apple on the verge of revamping its iMac relatively soon? The news story from applebitch.com speculates this much. It’s also been more than a year since the company launched a new version of the iMac. And with the introduction of a Retina-based MacBook Pro in June, a Retina-based iMac may make sense as well.
Meanwhile, a report from MacRumors.com in June noted a new iMac could be on the way after new benchmarks (used for measuring system performance) were listed through Geekbench. In the end, will letting the 27-inch iMac run out in US retail locations help provide the iPhone maker with an easy transition to a new desktop? We’ll soon find out.
