(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – cPanel, the creator of the most widely used Linux and Windows hosting control panels, recently expanded its Fast Update Service with additional facilities on the East Coast. InterServer, a premier web hosting provider in New Jersey, is one of multiple participants that have provided cPanel with access to its facilities.
The Fast Update service gives cPanel Partners the ability to install and deploy cPanel from a local mirror, instead of through the traditional Internet. The network comprises more than 50 servers located throughout the world, all of which provide a highly effective software distribution system.
cPanel already expanded its Fast Update services to South America and is now looking to increase this service on the East Coast. InterServer has provided cPanel with a great opportunity to expand its network while allowing InterServer to have access to local updates.
cPanel System Administrator Adam Wien said he was pleased with the East Coast expansion and partnership with facilities, such as InterServer, because it will increase the speed of installs and updates by 400 percent.
“The expansion of our East Coast presence is very exciting as cPanel continues to grow,” Wien said. “We are very excited with the initial network speeds and overall support we have received from InterServer.”
cPanel’s Fast Update service is a feature offered by many of the company’s top Partners. It is also one of the core building blocks to assist data centers, which are looking to provide faster installations for their users.
Rather than having to find connections to mirror servers, cPanel Partners are provided with a locally-housed server that can be used to provide updates to their cPanel/WHM and Enkompass servers. Not only does the Fast Update services use cPanel proprietary technology to find the closest mirror, but it also uses an internal algorithm to select the most suitable mirror for the fastest data transmission.
The faster installations and upgrades translate to fewer service interruptions for the partners’ clients. The faster install and upgrade times ultimately reduce bandwidth costs for data centers and allow providers and customers to reallocate their resources to other web hosting areas.
cPanel vice president of operations Aaron Phillips expressed cPanel’s commitment to providing world-wide services to Partner NOC’s.
“InterServer has been helpful in allowing cPanel to strategically grow its East Coast network and allowing us to host services and provide them with a local mirror service will help both companies with future expansion,” Phillips said.
