(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Social gaming pioneer Zynga on Monday reportedly landed a new CEO that’s pretty high profile. Landing the job is Don Mattrick, most recently the President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft.
In his previous spot, Mattrick oversaw the development of Xbox-related projects. Meanwhile, according to a report from Develop, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will temporarily oversee the Xbox business following Mattrick’s departure.
Ballmer also provided some words of appreciation for Mattrick. “Thank you, Don, for setting us on a path to completely redefine the entertainment industry. The strong leadership team at IEB and their teams are well positioned to deliver the next-generation entertainment console, as well as transformative entertainment experiences, long into the future,” the Microsoft CEO stated, according to the report.
Zynga is definitely in need of a good boost – something the company hopes Mattrick will deliver. Last month, the social developer, popular for titles like Farmville, announced mass layoffs affecting 520 employees. The move came as part of a cost reduction strategy for the company amid slumping popularity.
