(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Popular game distribution platform Steam has a new member: Dota 2. Developer Valve recently signaled that the game had finished beta testing – thus making it available for general access.
The free-to-play action and strategy title has been highly anticipated. In it, gamers are pitted against one another in a fantasy-like environment where they select from over one hundred heroes.
“During a two year beta, Dota 2 grew to be the largest active community on Steam ever, with a monthly user base over 3 million users, and peak concurrent users of over 300,000. The feedback from these users has put Dota 2 in position to welcome everyone to come play, as we move from beta to launch,” commented the developer via the official Dota 2 blog.
To receive the game, you can visit Dota 2’s Steam page. Select “Get Dota 2” and you’ll be added to a launch que. Valve will then email you when you can officially join. The company also had this to say via a Q&A on its website: “The volume of players let in will gradually increase so we can spread the launch load out over time.”
Valve is the popular maker of other games including Left 4 Dead, Half-Life and Portal. Watch a trailer for Dota 2 below:
