Dropbox Claims They Were Not Hacked, Information Was Stolen From Third-Party Services

Dropbox Claims They Were Not Hacked, Information Was Stolen From Third-Party Services (Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Dropbox users may want to change their usernames and passwords as a hacker is claiming to have information on seven million Dropbox customers.

Earlier this week the hacker leaked thousands of users information on a Reddit forum, claiming to release more if he was not paid in Bitcoins.

However, in a blog post Dropbox states they were not hacked and that the stolen information was accessed from third party services.

“The usernames and passwords referenced in these articles were stolen from unrelated services, not Dropbox,” says the company. “Attackers then used these stolen credentials to try to log in to sites across the internet, including Dropbox.”

“A subsequent list of usernames and passwords has been posted online. We’ve checked and these are not associated with Dropbox accounts,” Dropbox later added.
