(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Nintendo is already gearing up its next generation Wii U for release sometime this fall and if analyst predictions prove correct, it could be followed up by new console launches from competitors Sony and Microsoft in the coming year.
The predictions were made by industry analysts Colin Sebastian and Arvind Bhatiaduring during this year’s annual E3 gaming conference, according to a report from gameindustry.biz. Both talked to gaming industry insiders at this year’s annual event.
Sebastian (working for Baird Research & Insights) emphasized that while processor improvements for the new consoles were givens, an add-on in the area of online services could be among the most notable of changes.
While Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 continue to bring in relatively strong sales, the devices saw initial market release in 2005 and 2006 respectively.
“[There’s a] high probability that PlayStation 4 and/or Xbox 720 will be out in late 2013. Based on various conversations we had at the conference, we believe it is all but a given that either Microsoft or Sony or both will launch their new consoles next year,” commented Arvind Bhatia in gameindustry.biz’s report. Bhatia currently holds the title of Senior Research Analyst at Sterne Agee, a brokerage firm notable for its investments in tech publishers including Blizzard-Activision.
E3 is one of the industry’s most popular annual trade shows. This year’s event concluded yesterday in Los Angeles, California.
