(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Come the start of September, a leadership shakeup will hit virtualization provider VMware. On Tuesday, the company announced that current CEO of EMC Information Pat Gelsinger would assume the top spot at the virtualization provider.
Interestingly enough, in somewhat of a switcheroo, departing VMware CEO Paul Maritz will head to EMC to assume the role of a technology strategist (VMware acts as a subsidiary of EMC).
In remarks acknowledging his new role, Gelsinger briefly discussed a vision for the virtualization company’s future. “The next generation of software defined-datacenters will be built by combining software with standardized hardware building blocks. VMware is uniquely positioned to be the leader in this endeavor and deliver a whole new level of value to customers and its existing important ecosystem partners,” commented Gelsinger
Gelsinger’s previous experience includes a past role at top tech provider Intel where he served as Senior VP and Co-GM of the company’s Digital Enterprise Group.
VMware is preparing to hold its VMworld 2012 conference late next month in San Francisco, California. The event will bring together a variety of IT professionals for networking and presentations on topics including cloud and virtualization. Meanwhile, the company wasn’t the only to make big news regarding its top executive. On Monday, Internet search giant Yahoo! unveiled longtime Google employee Marissa Mayer as its new CEO.
