Session: Engagement Marketing Campaigns

(Ping! Zine) – Marketing Research and Education Expert Joel Book of ExactTarget today presented a session at Hostingcon 2010 entitled Engagement Marketing: Email, Social, and Mobile Media.

The session focused on examples of a few of today’s top brands and how they have integrated the use of email and social media into their marketing campaigns to become leaders in their market.

Without a doubt, Social Media has become a way of life for most of us today. We use it to communicate and share information in ways that sadly seems to be making other forms of communication obsolete.

With social media at the forefront of todays communication, it is crucial for businesses to integrate social marketing campaigns into their websites to survive.

According to Book, email is a technology that only seems to be getting stronger. 50% of shared information on the internet is done so through email. Socail media sites like Facbook and Twitter have integrated with email allowing businesses to communicate with their customers in a whole new way.

One way to gain new customers is to engage them through email. Many of us today think that the purpose of the newsletter signup on most websites are ways for businesses to gather personal information and spam the living daylights out of us. Although this is unfortunately true from some, technology has allowed for the newletter to evolve into a gigantic social interaction marketing tool.

Book went on to explain how many top companies use newsletters to engage their customers by creating personalized and product-targeted emails as well as adding interactive and entertaining information. When you are engaging potential customers through newsletters and other forms of email marketing, it is very important to add social-sharing functions that allows them to spread the word about your products or services.

When you can engage one subscriber to share information from your newsletter (ex. videos, articles, podcasts), that person has now marketed your business to everyone that is “following” that person and therefor bringing you potential new customers.

All-in-all it is important to remember that social media is a tool that can easily bring your business potential new customers. Stay well informed of what is trending in social media and be creative by providing people on the web with entertainment and information that will keep them coming back as well as making them want to share it with others.
