Facebook-centric ‘HTC First’ Already Considered a Failure?

facebooklogo(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Despite being unveiled just last month, the Facebook-centric HTC First smartphone could already be on the way out the door.

According to a report by Zach Epstein of BGR.com, AT&T has decided to discontinue the device after “shockingly bad” sales.

AT&T could fulfill its contract obligations and ship remaining inventory of the First back to HTC – a phone that currently goes for just $0.99 with a contract agreement with the wireless provider.

BGR also noted the HTC First had sold less than 15 thousand units during the past week as AT&T moved to drop the phone’s price.

While this may sound like bad news for HTC, the HTC First is hardly the company’s top priority. On the other hand, the HTC One has received rave reviews and could generation significant sales.

According to a CNN report in late 2011, a poll showed 80% of consumers weren’t interested in purchasing a Facebook phone.
