(Ping Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Facebook’s data center in Pineville, Oregon most recently received an install of DC lighting monitored by Redwood Systems, the company that specializes in assisting data centers with LED lighting in a way that reduces energy use.
Redwood System’s primary focus is on monitoring the lights through its DC control system. However, the company is not involved in the actual production of the lights.
DC Lighting allows data centers to cut down on cost and waste. The plan is part of what is known as green-technology.
The lighting functions using direct current, powered by a rack-mounted server. The lighting will allow Facebook data centers to improve efficiency by relying on sensors that tell the network when to adjust the lighting appropriately. Other parts of the lighting setup include cameras.
Facebook also plans to use the same lighting at its North Carolina data center.
