(Ping! Zine) – Social networking giant Facebook is investing further in the area of applications. On Wednesday, the company announced its App Center, heightening the visibility of social applications including Spotify, Pinterest and social games.
Discussing the matter in a Facebook blog post, company engineer Aaron Brady signaled that the platform would be rolled out within the “coming weeks.” It will also feature availability on Facebook mobile apps for both Android and Apple’s iOS. Users attempting to download applications from the center via mobile devices will be redirected to do so through either Google Play or Apple’s App Store.
Meanwhile, there are some requirements for users to get their social apps listed within the App Center. Applications must be well received via rankings. To assist developers with this, Facebook has integrated a metrics rating system into the social network, allowing developers to view how their applications are received by users.
Developers will also be required to create app detail pages which includes information such as the application’s publisher, amount of users, availability and more.
Just earlier this year in January, the social network rolled out new applications specifically designed for the revamped profile template known as “Timeline.” Those allow users to more prominently display information from apps including Rotten Tomatoes, Pinterest and more on their profiles.
