(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Millions of users were disconnected this morning from their Facebook accounts as the social media site experienced its first outage since 2010.
Users from all around the globe received a message early Thursday morning stating,” Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
According to USA Today, the outage affected both the mobile and desktop versions of Facebook, starting at 4 a.m. ET.
“Earlier this morning, we experienced an issue that prevented people from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time,” said a Facebook spokesperson. “We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100 per cent. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
The outage lasted no more than 30 minutes, just enough time for Twitter to blow up with tweets mocking the outage.
Topsy, Twitter’s analytics partner, stated tweet with the words “Facebook” and “down” had been used more than 70,000 times early this morning, CNN reports.
Facebook’s last global outage occurred four years ago due to “unfortunate handing of an error condition.”
