Facebook Promises to Fix Contact Deleting Glitch

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Facebook’s tinkering with its own email system has resulted in widespread problems and complaints from many belonging to the network of more than 900 million users.

Last week, the top social network received heat for changing user profiles to feature @Facebook.com names as their default email contacts, thus removing other email addresses from pages.

And the problems didn’t end there. New reports signaled that the company took it a step further: Changing email contact information in users’ smartphone address listings to feature the @Facebook emails as well. That might not sound too bad, but the measure succeeded in deleting previous contact information.

However, the company signaled on Tuesday that the issue was a glitch and said it would soon fix it, according to a report by the BBC.

The bug apparently took effect for users relying on Facebook contact syncing services. The top social network has caused controversy in the past. Last year, the company received criticism for initiating a facial recognition feature meant simplify photo tagging.
