(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Facebook has published its latest transparency report, revealing that government requests has risen by 24 percent in the last six months.
Between January and June 2014, almost 35,000 data requests were made, with 15,433 total request made across 23,667 accounts, says the transparency report.
“We respond to valid requests relating to criminal cases,” writes Facebook. “Each and every request we receive is checked for legal sufficiency and we reject or require greater specificity on requests that are overly broad or vague.”
The social media giant noted that it turned over 80.15 % percent of data, with the majority of it coming from search warrants and subpoenas.
