(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Xbox 360 users will sadly miss out on the release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Game developer Square Enix, however, maintains it has a solid reason for the unavailability.
The main issue apparently boils down to Microsoft’s refusal to provide cross-platform multiplay functionality for Xbox Live.
“The main reason from our side is that I don’t want the community to be divided; to be split into two or more. For example, one player might be on the PC version, another might be on the PS4 version, and I’m playing the Xbox version – but we’re not able to join the same game servers. That is just… I just don’t like the idea. I disagree with it,” commented game director Naoki Yoshida, according to a report from RPG Site.
Yoshida also said users might get frustrated by having to give up existing characters simply to play on other consoles.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, an MMO in the popular series, is expected to arrive for PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows in August.
