(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – The first report of the death of Usama Bin Laden didn’t come from a news organization. Reports claim that Keith Urbahn, former chief of staff of Donald Rumsfeld, was credited for being the first to break the news on Twitter.
Urbahn tweeted: “So I’m told by a reputable person they have killed Osama Bin Laden. Hot damn.”
The tweet of Bin Laden’s death has to be one of the biggest stories to ever break on Twitter.
Once the tweet was released, it didn’t take long for the news of Bin Laden’s death to reach traditional media outlets. News reports were quickly broadcasted before President Obama was able to make his speech a short time after 11 p.m. ET.
Another thing to point out is that Twitter handled the sudden flood of traffic with any outages reported. In the past, the site has been known to go down during major news releases.
