McAfee initially intended to give a press conference this morning to discuss an attempt to receive safety in the country. But since that’s not happening, he’s instead pleading with supporters for their help.
“Now for the first time, I am asking for support for me. Please email the President of Guatemala and beg him to allow the court system to proceed, to determine my status in Guatemala, and please support the political asylum that I am asking for. Please PLEASE be very POLITE in your communications, and I thank you,” he commented via his blog at whoismcafee.com.
An American citizen, McAfee is wanted in neighboring Belize where officials are seeking to question him regarding the murder of a neighbor.
While not considered a prime suspect, the co-founder of the antivirus firm sharing his likeness has evaded Belizean authorities who he insists are out to kill him.
Meanwhile, Guatemala appears ready ship McAfee back to Belize. “He entered the country illegally and we are going to seek his expulsion for this crime,” commented Guatemalan Interior Minister Mauricio Lopez Bonilla, according to a report from Reuters.
