Go Daddy Works to Fix Downtime as Hacker Takes Cred

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Many sites are down thanks to a purported attack on domain registrar Go Daddy. The site acknowledged having issues in a Twitter post made available Monday, saying, “Status Alert: Hey, all. We’re aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We’re working on it.”

An AP report noted that downtime could be effecting between thousands and millions of sites who rely on the company’s web hosting services.

According to a CNET report, someone posing under the Twitter handle “Anonymous Own3r” has claimed responsibility for the technical issue. “#TangoDown — http://www.godaddy.com/” read a Tweet. The attacker also clarified the issue wasn’t a result of hacking collective Anonymous, just an individually sponsored attack from him or herself.

Go Daddy emphasized that it was making progress on correcting the issue as of around 2 PM on Monday. However, the website remained down when attempting to access GoDaddy.com as of 4:00 PM central standard time.
