(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Last week’s Google I/O conference brought a lot of big news – but one of the biggest reveals pertained to Google Hangouts which the company has upgraded.
New features of Hangouts include new group conversations, video calls with up to ten friends and the platform’s ability to work on computers along with Android and Apple devices.
However, a report from The Verge on Sunday noted something pretty significant: The upgrade to Hangouts essentially removes Google Voice calls within Gmail and the ability to set an availability status (Talk about ouch!).
Meanwhile, the report suggested that some users may want to “hold off” on the upgrade. Why? Google is expected to upgrade the service to support both in and outbound calls at a later date.
