(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Popular travel information brand Frommer’s will have a new home with Google. According to a Monday report from the Wall Street Journal, the tech giant has moved to acquire the company for an unreported price.
Frommer’s publishes a number of guide books pertaining to travel destinations. The Wall Street Journal also noted that the move would help Google expand its “consumer offerings.”
A news story from All Things Digital signaled that Google would integrate the travel information company within Zagat, a review site currently featuring restaurant reviews. Meanwhile, it remains unknown whether Google will keep Frommer’s print books in circulation. Instead, they could decide to publish them completely through a digital platform.
Frommer’s has previously worked to make its content available via mobile devices including the Apple iPad.
“The Frommer’s team and the quality and scope of their content will be a great addition to the Zagat team. We can’t wait to start working with them on our goal to provide a review for every relevant place in the world,” a representative for Google commented in the report appearing on All Things Digital.
