Google Stops Ad Scanning in Students Using Gmail Through Apps For Education

Google Stops Ad Scanning in Students Using Gmail Through Apps For Education (Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Google will no longer be scanning students and school staff’s Gmail accounts for ads, announced the tech giant on Wednesday via blog.

Google has taken extra steps to ensure privacy to students, teachers, and administrators using Apps for Education by removing ad scanning and the enable/disable toggle for apps.

“We’ve permanently removed all ads scanning in Gmail for Apps for Education, which means Google cannot collect or use student data in Apps for Education services for advertising purposes,” says Google.

Google will be hosting Hangout on Air on May 1st at 9 am PT where the company will discuss the changes made and answer any questions.

Currently over 30 million students, k-12 and college, and faculty members use Gmail through Apps for Education.
