(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – During Friday’s Gmail outage, Hotmail user, David Peck, received thousands of blank emails due to his email being linked to the search term “Gmail.”
According to TIME NewsFeed, when users searched the word “Gmail” they were directed to a result page with a link that said “Email,” which connected emails to Peck’s address, [email protected]
“I’ve been getting thousands of no-subject, blank emails,” told Peck to TechCrunch. “500 of them come every hour, I can’t stop them.”
As of Friday morning, he had received more than 1,900 unread emails from people he did not know.
On Friday night, Google apologized for the glitch by stating, “Due to a technical glitch, some email addresses on public webpages appeared too prominently in search results. We’ve fixed the issue and are sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
Multiple people were reportedly affected by this “glitch”, although it is still unclear how many.
