(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Possibly unencrypted website data became a center issue when a hacking group recently succeeded in crashing tech giant Microsoft’s online retail store website for India.
Hackers responsible for the matter appeared to belong to Evil Shadow Team, a group based out of China, according to a report from Reuters
The site was temporarily defaced then taken offline by Microsoft as the company addressed the issue. Visiting microsoftstore.co.in read, “The Microsoft Store India is currently unavailable. Microsoft is working to restore access as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
In addition to defacing the website, the hacking group responsible has posted screen shots apparently containing unencrypted data such as user login credentials.
Meanwhile, a representative for Microsoft addressed the issue publicly in an email obtained by Reuters, stating, “Microsoft is investigating a limited compromise of the company’s online store in India.”
The incident with Microsoft India shortly follows another high profile breach in which another hacking group successfully obtained login information for users belonging to global electronics manufacturer Foxconn.
