(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Gamers in the World of Warcraft were recently in for a surprise when thousands of players in key virtual cities including Stormwind and Ogrimmar suddenly began dropping dead.
Blizzard, meanwhile, described the source behind the matter as an “in-game exploit,” noting the it had since been hotfixed.
“As with any exploit, we are taking this disruptive action very seriously and conducting a thorough investigation,” explained Battle.net community manager Nethaera in a blog post.
A report from the BBC signaled the dramatic aftermath of the hack attack. An image featured in the article showed thousands of player skeletons piled up in the virtual city of Orgrimmar.
Blizzard recently released the latest expansion for the popular MMO. Titled Mists of Pandaria, the set introduces a new giant panda race (Pandaren), among other features. You can view a video of the WoW exploit here.
