(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – U.S. Banks and government websites: Those are just two of the entities reportedly targeted by hacking group Anonymous and others via an operation called “OpUSA.”
It appears the group will use DDoS in an attempt to bring down websites belonging to the White House, FBI, Pentagon and U.S. Defense Department, a report from Fox Business signaled.
However, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security last week downplayed any impact the attack could have.
“The attacks likely will result in limited disruptions and mostly consist of nuisance-level attacks against publicly accessible webpages and possibly data exploitation. Independent of the success of the attacks, the criminal hackers likely will leverage press coverage and social media to propagate an anti-US message,” stated the agency, according to Buzzfeed.
It remains to be seen, meanwhile, if the attacks are having any effect. More information will likely surface tomorrow.
