(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – HostingCon 2011 continued with its second day in San Diego, California with early morning presentations that included the likes of OnApp’s Ditlev Bredahl, who discussed cloud creation. Meanwhile, cPanel’s Aaron Philips moderated a presentation called “Lightning Talks” that presented various tech issues affecting the hosting community.
However, yesterday’s biggest presentation took place in the form of HostinCon 2011’s second keynote address titled, “Are you ready for Hosting 3.0?” presented by Tier 1 Research’s Antonio Pirano. Drawing from his experience as VP of Research at Tier 1, Pirano discussed the next phase in the hosting industry.
Cloud computing has shaped the hosting community in recent years and continues its domination. So where does the hosting community go now? “Hosting 3.0,” as Pirano refers to it is on its way. But it doesn’t come without challenges, most notably formed by the three types of cloud services, whether they are enterprise, public, or private.
In his speech, Pirano discussed how different elements change the hosting community, whether it’s by providers working with one another through partnerships or acquisitions of other companies. Such things are obvious factors that are bound to shape cloud’s future.
He also talked about the adoption of cloud, specifically pointing towards companies’ plans to reduce IT costs. What’s the answer to gaining the upper hand when companies are trying to establish themselves from others in hosting? Pirano pointed to factors like management, security, and affordability. Other services like automation and virtualization can play a part as well.
HostingCon 2011 concludes today with a final keynote presentation by Parallel’s Birger Steen. For more information on HostingCon, visit: http://www.hostingcon.com/
