HSBC Services Down Following DDoS Attack

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – The onslaught of DDoS attacks against financial institutions continued Thursday with websites from HSBC being knocked offline.

“We are cooperating with the relevant authorities and will cooperate with other organisations that have been similarly affected by such criminal acts,” stated the company in press release.

HSBC would report one day later that all services had been restored.

The incident did not hit customer data, thankfully. However, it continues a trend of hacktivist groups going after banks. In late September, a number of companies including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JP Morgan Chase all fell victim hackers. Mrt. Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Cyber Fighters took responsibility for that incident.

However, the source of the latest attack remains unconfirmed with both the above-mentioned group and hacking collective Anonymous taking credit.
