(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Researchers at the Pentagon have recently built a robotic hummingbird capable of performing surveillance operations.
The Nano Hummingbird, built by AeroVironment and funded by DARPA, is capable of flying in all directions, including the ability to rotate clockwise and counterclockwise. The drone features a slightly larger wingspan (6.5 inches) than an actual hummingbird and looks very realistic in flight.
As of now, the hummingbird drone can only fly for a maximum of eight minutes. However, engineers are continuing to improve the drone and it could be fully operational as a spy device by the end of the decade.
