Instagram Swept by Delete Account Hoax

socialPZ(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Many Instagram users scrambled last week to repost a viral picture in an attempt to get the Facebook-owned photo app not to delete their accounts.

“Instagram is currently having some technical difficulties, so your account may get deleted. In order to not get deleted, repost this Picture and tag @dontdeletemyig,” read the picture.

The message was a hoax and of course Instagram wasn’t actually deleting accounts.

Instagram did, however, face technical difficulties as some users found themselves unable to access the popular photo app.

“A small percentage of users could not access their accounts for a few hours as a result of a temporary glitch. We have restored access for these users, and no pictures or data were lost,” stated an Instagram rep via a report from Digital Trends.

Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion in April of last year.

Hoaxes such as these are all too common in the world of social networking. Have you ever fallen for one? Let us know via our Facebook page!
