(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Sunday was not a good day for users of several key web services including Vine and Instagram. According to a BBC report, they all faced problems after a software issue occurred at an Amazon data center in northern Virginia.
Spotty access reportedly persisted for several hours and Amazon eventually blamed the downtime on a “partial failure of a networking device.”
Meanwhile, a report from ZDNet noted that, on the other hand, Netflix was able to stay online through the incident.
“We know many of you are having trouble loading Instagram. We identified the issue and are working to fix it ASAP. Thanks for holding on,” commented Instagram via its official Twitter account.
Amazon’s cloud-based services have a mixed track record regarding uptime. Just last December, a similar outage caused downtime for Netflix on Christmas Eve.
