(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Is Apple about to bid farewell to Intel? According to a report from Bloomberg, the popular iPhone maker is taking a look at replacing Intel chips in its Mac computers with similar technology used in the company’s mobile products.
The story arrives at a time when mobile technology is beginning to take precedent over more traditional systems such as desktop and laptop computers.
“Apple is a trendsetter, and once they did their own chip many others may pursue a similar path,” noted Gartner analyst Sergis Mushell in Bloomberg’s report.
Apple had been using IBM-developed chips in Macs until its decision to go with Intel in 2005. At the time, late Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs noted that the chip maker had “the strongest processor roadmap by far.”
