iOS 6 Launch Adds New Siri Functions, Map App & More

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Users of recent Apple devices including the iPad and iPhone today have a chance to bring change to their mobile operating systems.

Cupertino, California-based Apple was expected to release iOS 6, introducing a number of new of improvements, according to a Wednesday report from the Washington Post.

Among one of the most notable additions is an upgraded version of Siri, Apple’s A.I. assistant that helps users complete tasks, schedule appointments and more. With iOS 6, Siri will now be competent in new categories including sports (scoring, scheduling info, etc.), movie information (show times, reviews, etc.), and further knowledge of restaurants.

Also in the mix is a new mapping application that features “turn-by-turn directions” and GPS navigation, according to GigaOm. Other additions include improvements to the App Store, new contact lists and iCloud tabs for Apple’s Safari web browser.

Apple unveiled its iPhone 5 last Wednesday, introducing a thinner device with an increased screen size and a powerful, new A6 chip.
