(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – The strongly criticized Apple map app prominent in iOS 6 is so marred by errors, Australian police have warned it’s potentially life threatening.
According to a news story from Victoria Police News, officials expressed concern after the app had resulted in a number of motorists becoming stranded in Australia’s Murray-Sunset National Park.
In the application, the city of Mildura apparently appears 70km from it’s actual location.
Stranded motorists, meanwhile, were said to have searched for phone reception, becoming stranded amid dangerous terrain without access to water. Temperatures in the park can reach 46 degrees.
Apple previously acknowledged problems in September with company CEO Tim Cook stating, “We are extremely sorry for the frustration this has caused our customers and we are doing everything we can to make Maps better.”
