(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Cupertino, California-based tech giant Apple is likely working on new electronic-based tablet covers for its popular iPad line. Those intentions were confirmed when the company recently filed a patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office last week.
The patent abstract in the document reads, “A tablet device with a flexible cover is disclosed. Thin flexible display technology can be integrated into the flexible cover without affecting the overall form factor of the cover tablet device. Adding the integrated display to the flexible cover greatly enhances the overall functionality of the tablet device.”
The patents contain a number of blueprint images which appear to vary in design. However, one of the more interesting ones appears to be an attachable cover that also operates as both a hard keyboard along with a touchscreen area.
According to a report from Wired.com, aside from keyboards, the covers sport features including AMOLED displays, solar panels and more. In particular, the concept could pit the iPad’s appeal even more directly against the October launch of Microsoft’s Surface tablet, a device that also features a magnetic keyboard cover.
