(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Another game has taken users by storm, a game that many are calling “the most addictive thing” on the Internet.
The online game, 2048, was created nine days ago by 19-year old Italian developer Gabriele Cirulli, and now has over 5 million players, according to the Wall Street Journal.
“Once I had finished developing it, I just released it on a small news site for designers, just looking for some interesting feedback,” said Cirulli. “From there, it got posted on Hacker News and skyrocketed. It’s exciting, but also a bit stressful.”
2048 consists of a grid of 16 squares with different numbers on each. Players must use the arrow keys to combine tiles with the same number, which then forms bigger squares of numbers.
“I still haven’t managed to get anywhere close to a 1024 tile at my own game. I doubt I’ll ever beat it, which is ironic,” posted the developer on his Twitter page.
Cirulli claims that he will not release an app version of the game because he wants to “strengthen” his site. 2048 can be played on his official website here.
